Modern Austrian Literature, the journal of the Modern Austrian Literature and Culture Association (MALCA, formerly International Arthur Schnitzler Research Association), is published quarterly. Published contributions have been submitted to blind peer review and are indexed in the MLA International Bibliography.

The Max Kade Institute has generously funded a "Max Kade Prize for Best Article in Modern Austrian Literature" awarded at the annual conference of MALCA. The winner of the $1500 award will be identified from among the year's articles published in Modern Austrian Literature, based on a poll of the editoral board. See the list of winners.
